OVERVIEW
What creates and punctuates home? What does home look, sound, smell, and taste like? What does home feel like? What is home to you?
Once a private residence, 53/2/2 Hazra Road became Calcutta’s home for art and culture in January 2024. On the occasion of TRI Art & Culture’s first anniversary, we open the doors to HOME বাড়ি घर گھر, an immersive exhibition curated by Lekha Poddar from the collection of Devi Art Foundation. Equal parts a celebration of our institutional anniversary and a creative homecoming for Poddar whose familial roots reside in Calcutta, HOME বাড়ি घर گھر invites its visitors to look at places of dwelling as places of discovery. Through the work of 20 contemporary artists accompanied by poetic excerpts in Bangla, Hindi, Urdu, and English, this exhibition portrays the ordinary through the extra-ordinary, showcases otherwise functional objects in fantastical forms, and explores the language of our architectural and embodied interiors.
ABOUT THE CURATOR
Lekha Poddar Lekha Poddar is a Calcutta-born and Delhi-based art collector, philanthropist, and businesswoman. Alongside friends, in 1990, Lekha restored and started the Neemrana Fort Palace Hotel in Rajasthan. Between 2000 and 2011, she went on to open three more hotels in Rajasthan with her son Anupam. This initiative led to the formation of Textile Arts of India in 1997 as a society to promote the excellence of traditional handloom crafts of India. Lekha’s experience as an art collector and passion for contemporary art fueled the establishment of the Devi Art Foundation in 2005 – which has hosted several major exhibitions till date from the collection’s vibrant and diverse collection. Completing two decades of operation in 2025, Devi Art Foundation carries forward the vision of making art accessible to the public, representing Indian and South Asian contemporary artists.
