OVERVIEW
In guiding viewers through the artist’s life story, the exhibition Bhuri Bai – My Life as an Artist showcases the relationships between image and narrative, art and archive, tradition and identity – and most notably – expression and autobiography. Through her use of a tribal style to capture contemporary life, Bhuri Bai’s paintings in this exhibition prompt us to ask: What in our lives and of ourselves bears recording? And how does the act of recording both capture and create the personal narratives we embody?
In celebration of the culmination of the exhibition Bhuri Bai – My Life as an Artist, TRI Art & Culture is joined by Expressive Arts practitioner Charvi Budhdeo to excavate these questions through a multidisciplinary workshop employing creative movement and illustration to explore personal stories through the record-making device of a signature. Then, we turn from the dance floor to the paper, employing our single-gesture signatures as caligraphy-ed characters. The workshop culminates in the illustration and presentation of a visual ledger for your signature; a proverbial page in your book.
