On the occasion of TRI Art & Culture’s first anniversary, HOME?! বাড়ি ঘর ঘর invites you to explore the meaning of home — its spaces, sounds, textures, and memories — through the imagination of twenty contemporary artists.
What creates and punctuates home? What does home look, sound, smell, and feel like? What is home to you?
Once a private residence, 53/2/2 Hazra Road became Kolkata’s home for art and culture in January 2024. To celebrate TRI Art & Culture’s first anniversary, we present HOME?! বাড়ি घर گھر, an immersive exhibition curated by Lekha Poddar from the collection of Devi Art Foundation.
Equal parts a celebration of our institutional anniversary and a creative homecoming for Poddar, whose familial roots reside in Kolkata, this exhibition invites visitors to view places of dwelling as sites of discovery. Through works by twenty contemporary artists, accompanied by poetic excerpts in Bangla, Hindi, Urdu, and English, HOME?! বাড়ি घर گھر portrays the ordinary through the extraordinary, transforms functional objects into fantastical forms, and explores the language of our architectural and embodied interiors.
Lekha Poddar is a Kolkata-born and Delhi-based art collector, philanthropist, and businesswoman. In 1990, she restored and started the Neemrana Fort Palace Hotel in Rajasthan, and between 2000 and 2011, opened three more hotels with her son, Anupam. This initiative led to the formation of Textile Arts of India in 1997, promoting excellence in traditional handloom crafts.
Poddar’s passion for contemporary art fueled the establishment of the Devi Art Foundation in 2005, which has hosted several major exhibitions from its vibrant collection. Completing two decades of operation in 2025, the Foundation continues to make art accessible to the public while representing Indian and South Asian contemporary artists.
