A conversation between Sudhir Patwardhan and Gayatri Sinha on urbanization as a visual construct.
In his exhibition Cities: Built, Broken, Sudhir Patwardhan uses scale, perspective, and a vertigo-inducing approach to depict Mumbai’s urban evolution over the past 40 years. New buildings rise rapidly, replacing empty tracts of land, while figures in Patwardhan’s works negotiate structures that redefine the cityscape. Through these compositions, the artist interrogates the human condition under modernization and positions urbanization itself as a visual construct.
Visible Delirium brings Patwardhan into dialogue with art critic and curator Gayatri Sinha. Drawing on Sinha’s expertise in iconography and social history, the conversation explores the dynamics of urban transformation and the aesthetic representation of the built environment. Together, they examine how visual art can reveal, critique, and interpret the processes shaping contemporary cities.
