Join TRI Art & Culture on Saturday, 25 July for Designing Your Dream World, an Expressive Arts workshop for young audiences to discover, explore, and map the life of their dreams, led by youth arts facilitator Priyanka Chowdhury.
In Gulammohammed Sheikh’s Mappamundi series, the artist reimagines the medieval Ebstorf Mappamundi as a richly layered landscape of stories, memories, histories, and imagined environments. Rather than mapping places as they are, Sheikh considers how maps can reveal narratives, connect cultures, and reflect the many worlds we carry within us, even as we inhabit the layered worlds beyond us.
Designing Your Dream World is an invitation to open the imagination and join Sheikh in these considerations. Developed for young audiences, this workshop begins with a guided journey through TRI Art & Culture’s summer season exhibition Hand Prints / Mind Prints by Gulammohammed Sheikh, curated by Pushpamala N. in association with Vadehra Art Gallery. Here, participants will be encouraged to look closely, ask questions, and notice the artworks that call their attention. Drawing from these exercises in observation, they are then invited into the process of creation, where they will have the opportunity to create their own personal Mappamundi, inspired by Sheikh’s prints and paintings. Together we will play with various visual motifs to shape uniquely fantastical landscapes.
Materials and art supplies will be provided to participants. The workshop is open to participants from the ages of 8 to 12.
This is a ticketed event priced at Rs. 600 per participant, with limited seats available. Following registration, please expect an email from info@triartandculture.com. A member of the TRI team will be in touch regarding next steps for confirmation and payment.
