Pop, kitsch, and the nostalgia of taste come together in Anikesa Dhing’s intervention within ADDA: The Third Space at TRI Art & Culture, curated by St+art India Foundation. A tongue, a stick of gum, and larger-than-life candies invite playful engagement while serving as repositories of memory and class identity.

Anikesa guides participants through her methods of seeing and making, to recreate an object or memento of personal significance by drawing, literally and figuratively, from emotion and memory. Through a playful game of hide-and-seek with a personal object, participants explore a drawing framework that does away with the rigid rules of form, welcoming memories to morph into a shape of their own.

The workshop culminates with a return to childhood and the playful use of crayons to develop the sketch, examining the ways we live with everyday objects. Participants are invited to bring a personal object they associate with childhood, a toy, a blanket, a candy, a yo-yo, or a flower, to create their own nostalgic sketch.
