A Wildflower Garden invites audiences to slow down and immerse themselves in a poetic landscape of narrative and experimental cinema, where each film is a wildflower that resists containment and inspires reflection.
Presented as part of the inaugural edition of Monsoon Rooms, A Wildflower Garden is a cinematic space curated by Harkat Studios that embraces the spirit of the monsoon season through film. Bringing together thirty films from across the world, this exhibition spans narrative and experimental cinema, Indian arthouse and international classics, and feature films and shorts.
From the meticulous lyricism of Nainsukh to the political wit of Unlimited Girls, and from the restrained intensity of Portrait of a Lady on Fire to the archival excavation of Terra Femme, the viewing room forms a constellation of cinematic experiences that resist linearity to invite attention, reflection, and immersion. Conceived as a cinematic garden, the collection of films nurtures curiosity, wonder, and collective joy by offering viewers a space to pause, linger, and see anew.
Harkat Studios is an alternative arts and performance space, boutique studio, and analog film lab based in Mumbai. Over the past decade, Harkat has supported over a thousand projects across theatre, film, music, community practice, and contemporary art. Focused on experimental and fringe practices, the studio functions as both a collective and an incubator, providing space and tools for diverse makers and storytellers.
Working primarily with photo-chemical motion picture film, Harkat operates one of India’s only analog film labs and hosts the 16mm Film Festival on an annual basis. The studio also collaborates with platforms such as Netflix, Amazon, and Disney on creative projects ranging from title sequences to in-film animation.
Led by Karan Suri Talwar and Michaela Talwar, Harkat’s practice is informed by questions of identity, belonging, community, and time.
